Eczema and Psoriasis
Adult and childhood eczema and psoriasis can be treated effectively with classical homeopathy. Because eczema and psoriasis are chronic health conditions, an appointment must be made at the clinic in order for treatment to be effective.
We use homeopathic medicines to treat eczema and psoriasis. Our medicines are administered orally. Topical creams are not used, although creams can be applied as a supplementary measure in order to soothe and moisturize the skin during homeopathic treatment. For eczema cream recommendations, refer to our blog article: “Natural Eczema Creams and Treatments: A Review.” These eczema creams are also useful for psoriasis.
Steroid creams are not recommended during treatment because they only suppress the symptoms without actually getting rid of the problem. Homeopathy treats the root cause of the problem and prevents it from reoccurring. For extreme cases of eczema and psoriasis, steroid creams can safely be used alongside homeopathic treatment.
We do not do allergy testing at this clinic. Most people have sensitivities, not real allergies. Sensitivities to foods and to environmental factors can change, which is why Vega testing is not always accurate. Homeopaths prefer to use homeopathic medicines to strengthen the body so that it is no longer sensitive to allergens. Rather than limiting your life and telling you to avoid the allergen, we strengthen the body so that it can eventually tolerate the allergen.
Examples of Cured Cases of Eczema and Psoriasis with Homeopathy
Case One
Joan was 62 when I first saw her, and had suffered from eczema since the time she was a baby. It appeared on her forearms and neck and sometimes on her lower legs. It was dry and red. Occasionally it cracked and exuded a clear fluid. When she was an infant, it was located in the bends of her elbows and knees. As a young teen, she had had a bout of poison ivy and the location had changed then. She was a cheerful, very busy, retired teacher who continued to teach teachers and to travel to hot countries. She disliked using steroid cream, so whenever the itch was really bad she would jump into a hot shower. I prescribed Rhus Toxicodendron 12c to be taken daily. Joan’s skin cleared up in a week. Unfortunately, the itch reappeared two months later, at which point Rhus Tox. 30c was prescribed, but it did not help. So then I gave her Rhus Tox. LM1. One dose cleared her skin. I lost touch with Joan after this.
Case Two
Jamal was 9 years old and very fond of sweets. He was also highly superstitious and thought dressing as a vampire at Hallowe’en might attract real vampires. Jamal developed oval shaped blackish itchy eruptions on his forearms and upper arms. He would scratch them so hard that sometimes they would bleed. He told me the itch was better when he was moving around and better after he had a shower. I prescribed Rhus. Tox. 12c every day for a month. As soon as he stopped the remedy, the itch returned. One dose of Rhus. Tox. 30c lasted a week. A second lasted two weeks, and a third cured him completely.
Case Three
In her late twenties when she came to my office, Kate had suffered from eczema since she was nine. It had come on when she became upset about moving away from her friends. She had itchy red bumps on her right side and on her buttocks. Although the outbreak was not severe, its appearance really bothered her. The remedy Thuja matched Kate’s symptoms very well. She began taking the 12c potency daily, but her skin got more irritated. At first I thought she might need another remedy in the conifer family, so I told her to stop taking the Thuja. Her skin then began to clear up. Four weeks later it was 90% better. Two more doses of Thuja 12c, six weeks apart, completely cleared her eczema. She emailed me to say how happy she was to feel normal again.
Case Four
Anna was a graduate student who was close to completing her doctorate. She was feeling ready to leave the university, but a series of mishaps in finding postdoctoral work and a needy boyfriend were making her feel very stressed. She developed very itchy fluid filled bumps on her palms and her fingers which she felt compelled to scratch until they were raw. Lycopodium 12c brought some relief, but soon she needed a stronger potency. Lycopodium 30c only worked for a couple of weeks. Several subsequent doses of Lycopodium LM1 completely cleared the eczema.
Case Five
Chronic psoriasis on her abdomen and buttocks was the complaint Simone presented when seeking homeopathic help. The patches were worse on the right side of the body and were itchy and worse in winter. I also discovered that she suffered from severe social anxiety. She was quiet, conscientious and was afraid of violence and thunderstorms. The remedy natrum carbonicum substantially reduced her anxiety before beginning to improve her skin. Today, after eight months of homeopathic treatment (and continuing), Simone’s skin is 75% improved.
Scientific Studies Prove the Effectiveness of Homeopathy for the Treatment of Eczema and Psoriasis
Keil T, Witt CM, Roll S, Vancea W, Webera K, Wegscheiderb K, Willich SN. ”Homoeopathic versus Conventional Treatment of Children with Eczema: A comparative Cohort Study.” Complementary Therapies in Medicine (2008) 16, 15—21.
This was a prospective, multi-centre, parallel-group, comparative cohort study was conducted in urban and mixed urban—rural regions of Germany. 118 children suffering from clinically defined eczema seen at 54 homeopathic practices and 64 conventional medical practices were treated for the condition with the respective therapeutic protocols normally used in these clinics, i.e. individualised homeopathic or conventional medical therapy. Treatment occurred over a period of 12 months and the outcomes of the 2 different methods of therapy were assessed at 6 months and 12 months by the children or their parents on the basis of eczema signs and symptoms and the quality of life. Overall, on the basis of clinical symptoms and quality of life, there was little difference in the response rates of both groups to their respective therapies although at 12 months after starting treatment, those children who were treated homeopathically had a greater level of recovery from symptoms than those treated with conventional medicine. No adverse reactions were reported for either group
Itamura R. “Effect of homeopathic treatment of 60 Japanese patients with chronic skin disease.” Complement Ther Med. 2007 Jun;15(2):115-20.
60 people were enrolled in this uncontrolled trial which was carried out in Obitsu Sankei Hospital in Kawagoe which was designed to determine the effect of individualised homeopathic medicines on several common skin disorders. These disorders included atopic dermatitis, eczema, acne, urticaria, psoriasis and alopecia universalis. Treatment occurred over a period of 3 months to 2 years and 7 months and subjects were permitted to use conventional dermatological treatments while taking part in the trial. Using the trial participants’ own assessment, improvement or otherwise was assessed using a nine-point scale similar to the Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital Outcome Scale. On this basis, 6 people reported a complete recovery, 23 reported a 75% improvement, 24 found a 50% improvement and 7 had a 25% improvement). In all, 88.3% of patients reported over 50% improvement.
